Hey Guys wondering if you can help me with a problem...
a virus got onto my pc which Norton couldnt remove, i reformatted and installed XP Home edition... well tried installing Vista but my monitor or any other didnt like it so had to go use XP

Since reformatting XP doesnt recognise the hardware for the soudcard...
i have tried everything i could think of, i beleive i downloaded the correct drivers for it, updated the bios and the drivers for the chipset but still no joy...

would anyone have a possible answer to solve this mystery to me...

Here the specs:

OS: Windows XP Home Edition SP2
MOtherboard: Manufacturer: MSI, Model: MS-7187
CPU: Intel Pentium D
1024 MB DDR2 Memory
Graphics: RADEON X300/X550/X1050 Series
Sound Card: Realtek High Definition Audio I think not sure how to find that out

Thanks in advance

To find out what your sound is, follow these steps.
1) click on the start menu, select "Run..."
2) type "dxdiag" in the space and select run.
3) click on the sound tab on the popup that appears, and viola! there will be the sound card maker.

Hi Alf, thanks for the reply

I have done what you said,
but it cannot find the hardware, as XP does not recognise it exists

an error message appears saying no sound hardware found, then it goes on about installing the drivers.... when i went through the dxdiag

If you go to device manager, does it appear in there as an unknown device? If not, just double check that the onboard sound is enabled in your BIOS (I'm sure it is though if it worked before the reformat).

I've spent the last 15 mins searching for this driver, and I can't find too much on it. I think you want to install the one I link to below :)

Cheers ian will try that as soon as i get home....

Ive checked and triple checked if the onboard sound was on in the bios, was confused looking first as i couldnt see the option, but i think i finally found it (either way it was something to do with the sound) and was set to automatic.... no other options apart from disable....

will let you know how i get on..

No joy, when installing it stops and popsup with

Device doesn't exist or maybe removed manually.
please plug in device or reboot and try install again

Download ... Everest ... and run it, it will tell you what the Audio chip is, and, may even link to the drivers.

perhaps, but sometimes everest looks at the driver for information... so... no driver, no info...
try dowloading the sound driver from the motherboard's site...

information information information ... we need ALL the information, everytime

Well, quite simply, you need the motherboard drivers ... it will have all you require.

Now, the "problem" is, who the hell built your PC ... Dell, HP, ComCrap ???

Going to MSI, the maker of your board is a waist of time, they built the MB, but, it's an OEM job lot, the OEM will/should have all the drivers you need.

... go get 'em. :thumb:

dont think a site exists its my mother computer not mine hehe

the computers built by philips but theres no support or drivers on the site

(ahem.... mucks.... its spelled waste, not waist)

A computer build by phillips? hmm... perhaps your better off buying and audigy series card than paining yourself with tracking down a driver that may not exist.

i poped into pcworld today asi needed to pick something up, while i was there i thought and had a look to get a sound card.....

as they do a sales rep came up trying to sell me the best of the best with a hefty price tag.... i explained why i needed one and he advised me to go onto the techguys website (the pc was bought from pcworld) and there was the driver wooohooo i said to myself until i installed it, rebooted and still no sound :|

Well, at least you were happy.... if for moment
:D

... perhaps you overlooked the sound config on your computer (ie muted, or wrong connections)

Good point there Alf . Have you checked that all the settings are correct here crazyguy .
