On startup Explorer has page fault...

and no desktop or toolbar is visible. Some times
Explorer.exe causes a Page Fault at memory address...etc,
etc. and sometimes it doesn't show a page fault message.

If I start a new process and enter Explorer.exe the
toolbar flashes and then disappears.

I've installed all the latest updates, no virus is
running, but I suspect that a dependent of Explorer.exe
is missing or corrupt, any ideas on how to rebuild
Explorer and it's dependants?

No Clean sweep, so that's not an issue there...

TIA.

YOu could try

start/run
sfc /scannow

To check all xp system files, and replace any that are missing.
It checks in \windows\system32\dllcache first, then if you've installed sp1
it looks in \windows\servicepackfiles\1386 and finally if it can't find it
there, it'll prompt for the installation cd.

I'll give that a try here shortly...

Although, with the lack of Explorer running I can't do
a "start/run" ... there is no start menu :)

And the "Window's" key isn't opening the start menu
either.

So, I'll assume that I can do a Vulcan Nerve Pinch (Ctrl-
Alt-Del) and start a new process and try entering in
sfc /scannow

Thanks again!

I'll post the results when finished.

Well, I ran sfc /scannow, it did it's thing but no
prompts that files were fixed or that they needed fixing,
and the issue still is here.

Explorer.exe application error (memory could not
be "written")
