On / off switch broken

The on / off switch quit working. Power cable in known good power outlet.
Plug the power cable in and the green light on the outside of the Power
Supply comes on.

Green light on the mobo comes on. But the mobo / hd never comes on / boots
up.

The on / off / switch clicks but no electric / bootup.

XP Home with Sony Vaio VGC-RB53X

Replace the switch...it is a momentary on/off switch.

Trace the 2 wires that come from the on/off switch to the motherboard, short
those 2 pins together. If the machine doesn't power up then you either have
a defective power supply or motherboard. If it does power up then you have
a defective switch. I would suspect that the switch is fine.

Agreed. If the OP is wondering, the wires from the on/off switch are not
polarity sensitive. Can plug them in either way.
