When I start up windows XP, after the bootup I get an auto startup of my
dialup routine. Sometimes once, sometimes 3 consecutive time i.e. I have to
cancel once or sometimes three times. I have looked in all the startup
folders and used msconfig.exe to look for running systems. I find no
reference to the dialup routine. I am missing something. Any suggestions
would be appreciated

Try the following :

- From the Start menu, choose Control Panel.
- Open the Performance and Maintenance icon.
- Open the Administrative Tools icon.
- Open the Services icon.
- Highlight the Remote Access Auto Connection Manager option.
- From the Action menu, choose Properties.
- From the Startup Type drop-down menu, choose Manual.
- Click the Stop button.
- Click the OK button.

Alternate Fix :

- From the Start menu, select All Programs, select Accessories, select Communications, and then choose Network Connections.
- From the Advanced menu, choose Dial-Up Preferences.
- Remove the checkmarks from beside all of the locations listed in the Enable Autodial by Location section.
- Place a checkmark beside the Disable autodial while I am logged on and Always ask me before autodialing options.
- Click the OK button.

Is your antivirus program set to automatically check for updates? If so,
disable that option -- just be sure to manually check a couple times a week.
