On Board Lan issue

Hi,
I'm having an HIS motherboard with Intel 845GV chipset and on board
Lan. The current operating system is Win98se. I'm having a broadband
connection coming through a LAN network using RASPPPOE to connect.

My problem here is that even after installing the Lan driver &
Raspppoe is installed I'm unable to connect to the ISP's server. The
ISP states that the on board Lan is faulty. But I've had the
motherboard replaced and still the problem persists.

I installed a second Lan card on one of the PCI slots, and was able to
connect to the server and the net without any problem on both the
motherboards.

Is there any settings which I've overlooked? The Motherboard manual
does not have any details on this & I've been unable to get any
information through all the surfing I've done on the matter.

Help appreciated.
Thanks,
Arvind.

Connecting over a LAN you're going though another windows
box or a router?

Ping that 2nd "system".

If it responds to the ping, try using the Internet
Connection Wizard. If it doesn't, check your network
settings & see what's reported by "winipcfg".

Check whether the system-or-router is connecting to the ISP
by noting the lights on it, logging on and checking the
menus, or accessing internet with that system, whatever
applies. Basically you're trying to determine where the
chain is breaking down.

More specific details of the setup, network/router/etc,
might help.

I assume you are using Windows Internet Connection Sharing (ICS). I had
problems because the Firewall on the host PC prevented access. The
firewall program that I used to solve it was Zonealarm version 4.5
(version 5 and above causes problems with ICS). Unfortunately you will
need the Professional version which has to be paid for, the free version
does not support ICS.

Check in your computer's bios, and make sure the onboard let is set to on
rather than disabled.

Actually there is no firewall installed at the moment.

@Kony The ISP is having RedHat on his server. And from what I gather
there is no router installed.
And Winipcfg does not show the ISP's address.

BTW I seem to have solved the problem. I downloaded the current
"Intel® Chipset Software Installation Utility" and after running this
utility and a reboot thereafter, the connection to the ISP's server
could be established.

Thanks to both Kony & Buccaneer for the suggestions.
