Crossover cables are the same as ethernet (Straight-through) cables, with
the minor difference being the send and receive wires are reversed on one
end.

well yes and no....could be a Homephone networking port. If its the size of the phone jack then no, larger, then yes.

The reason I ask is because I want to link two PC's together and I think I
need to use the following cable:-

Temporarily remove the plastic phone plug from either the wall or the back
of your telephone.
That is an RJ-11 jack. If it fits perfectly into your onboard lan plug on
the back of your pc, then
you've got a homenetworking thingie.
If it goes in and you've got room to spare because the plug is bigger, then
its an RJ-45.
Don't forget to plug your telephone back in.

Hence they are not the same then, if they were the same there wouldnt be any
difference.......duh!

I doubpt you'd see a mobo with HPNA on it. You'd most likely need a
CNR card, if not a PCI card toget that, HPNA is so 2000 anyways.

AFA it being 2000....the 850 intel chips have support/cnr and many compaq and e machines had Hpna integrated. He didnt say exactly
what he had.....
