I want to omit the background graphics in my presentation,
which I can do without any problem. When I do, my slide
numbers disappear. Can anyone help?

If there is a particular graphic you want to remove, go to
View/Master/Slide Master(and/or Title Master), click on
the graphic and delete it. Unless the master slide
background is a picture that contains the graphic, you
should be able to do it. Then go back and uncheck the box
you checked in the Background selection option. Eureka,
graphic is gone and page numbers return.

That did it. Thanks so much!

Have you tried copying the number box from the master
slide, and then switching to slide view and then "hard"
pasting the number box onto each slide? That's what I
usually do when I run into the same situation as you, and
it works a charm!
