I am sick too death of nvidia drivers crashing and displays resetting on this damn PC

I have tried all driver right back too 301 and even the new beta 310

A brand new installation yet again of windows 7 Pro and 10 mins after using it i'm getting display crashes. No idea whats causing it and i'm really pee'd off now

XP was more stable than this. Its only since I bought Windows 7 and build this new PC i've had this issue

Does anyone have some idea to stop this?

Thanks

Never had a problem with Nvidia drivers with my GTX580, every update has worked flawlessly. Your PSU upto the job?

me don't think it a driver specific problem, especially as you are experiencing this over a range of driver builds.

Only when "mainly" opening web pages? I take it you tried other browsers.

Not only opening pages. Sometimes random crashes on desktop too.

Its happened on IE9, FF17 and once on Chrome. Not tried any others

I'm hoping it's not my SSD :(

I hope it aint the card either its brand new too :(

BSOD? No mate not that I know of. The screen just blanks out stays blank for about 5 - 10 seconds then recovers and Nvidia gives me a "driver not responding but has recovered" message. If it does it more than twice in a row it shuts the monitor off so I have no choice but to reset/reboot system grrrr

I did read somewhere that the Nvidia driver and the Radeon driver that comes with this Mobo (ASUS 990FX) have problems working together. I did try uninstalling the Radeon driver for the board a while ago, but it didn't seem to make a difference

If a graphics card is new it's actually more likely to have problems than if it's had several months or years' use. The fault rate graph curve for most electronic, electrical or mechanical device starts with a steep rise, tails off to low for a long time then as it ages rises rapidly again. On average.

If possible transfer your complete OS to another disk with some free software (I believe Seagate supply a free version of Acronis True Image or there are others open-source based) and see how that behaves for a while. Similarly, put your old graphics card back (if you still have it) and see if the prob's still there.

Run Memtest for a couple of hours. Run AV and anti-malware software.

Update all motherboard drivers if there are newer versions than the ones you're using available.

Perhaps update the mobo bios if there's a newer one available.

Process of elimination. And yes, unlikely to be drivers, not if you've tried several and the result is the same with each.

Yeah good idea Flops I will install other card and see how I get on :)

It is a brand new installation. (did it last night)

Absolutely everything in this machine is approx 3weeks old bar the ssd which is about 3month now.

Will try swapping gfx first anyway

Ok swapped gfx card with my GTS 250

Nvidia crashed and recovered again twice in a row about 5mins after running 310.61

Arrghh

Sounds like a component conflict, doesnt look like your going to be able to run a nvidia card in that system. Strange but it happens. Probably down to the motherboard chipset

Ok, progress. New graphic card looks to be ok.

Now run Memtest when you have an hour or two to spare away from the computer.

One thing at a time ;)

Hmm now this issue

I'm starting to get really annoyed

Been using my other card for a week or so. Less crashes

Then I noticed this post on another forum so nicked it.

Hope he don't mind because I can't remember where it was :(

"I finally figured out that I needed to disable hardware acceleration on flash videos, no more crashing after that.

Just go here: http://www.macromedia.com/support/do...manager07.html

Then right click on the flash applet and go to settings.

Then go to the far left "screen" icon for hardware settings, and uncheck enable hardware acceleration. This should stop your crashing.

Also, this is Adobe's fault, not nVidia or ATI's. After flash 10.1 there was some additional hardware settings added to flash player for UVD clock settings on video cards. It's very touchy, and is prone to BSOD'ing rigs."

Anyway i've applied the setting, so time to switch cards again and see what happens over the next few days

go to add & remove programs, remove Adobe, ALL problems sorted. :thumb:

you don't need it. :)

If that doesn't do the trick....have you tried another slot on the motherboard if you have one?

Maybe the slot is having an issue.

Just a thought.

After a new install, more searching and deliberating

I made a change in Firefox 17.0.1

tools\options\advanced\generall

I disabled the hardware acceleration

Been an hour and no crashes

Fingers crossed ;)
