Omega 4.5s made my vidcard memory got to 1483mhz :)

It did not like my Gigabyte Vtuner software AT ALL.

Had to uninstall it and now have what ever the latest ATI drivers
4.6,4.7 ?

By the way my card is a Radeon 9600 pro, 1483 on the memory clock HMMM
like to but the card would explode if it went that high

Though i do like the omega drivers when they work which is most of the
time ill try the next ones and we will see if i can keep em.

That the software allows you to overclock to said point x doesn't
means the card can reach point x.

Some overclock software allows standard to overclock up to 6x the
standard speed... but personly, I think that more then 50% more you
won't get... after that either it's to hot, or the memory timings go
wild ( and your card crashes )

I self have now underclocked my Club3d 9800 Pro to 9800 Non Pro
timings... why? ... it simply won't get stabile... I tried everything,
better cooling and alike to... but it simply wouldn't stay stabile...
now I am trying if the VGA silencer can do the job better then the
Zalman 80H ...

Since it pumps heat out of the case it should work.. then again.. I
said "it should work" also with the Zalman..and that.. well the zalman
works ..but only postphones the inevitable...

Sad, why in heavens name is that goddamn chipset so unstable on this
card....

then you will have some better ideas on O/C & Stability. I do recall
when reading the article to make a mental note to tell any overclocker
that to do so without the aforementioned xtra cooling on the memory
might be dangerous.

You have my sympathy M8, it's a bummer, good money well spent and an
unsatisfactory outcome is a real frustration.

I looked for this particular site I mentioned but could not find it
again. I do think however that you have misunderstood my point, or at
least I have not made myself clear enough.

As follows my recall of what I read :

- the card [ compared with others ] was already underclocked at stock
settings. Why would this be? other than the fact that the memory on
this PCB was by definition struggling to make even the ' vanilla '
average of other manufacturers video cards ?

Other makers using the exact same memory chips on the same reference
boards did not have this problem.

- the bottom line importance - as I remember it from the reviewer was
that this very particular brand, when compared to other brands had an
unusual, bordering on the critical, amount of heat coming from the
memory chips - and this at the standard default settings.

His observation contained an unusually blunt warning that you should
not even ever try to O/C this card without an open case and a megga
desk fan blowing over the memory.

So it's not the hot chipset of the 9800pro in general, but this
particular brand's memory modules, when compared to others he was
drawing attention to.

As follows my thoughts on the [ general ] subject :

- unless your case is within 10ºC [ ish ] of your room's ambient you
are only ever going to be re-cycling the overheated air from CPU GPU
and everything else back into your video card. You need to find and
fix the gap between where you want to be and where your at.

You know where you want to be, and the quickest [ 10 minutes ] and
cheapest [ free ] way of finding where your at is to ;
