I have an Epson ES 1200-C scanner and since I upgraded my
PC to Windows XP, the scanner has not worked (error
messages - can't communicate). I contacted Epson and they
informed me Windows XP is not compatible with this scanner
and no drivers will be created in the future. Can this be
true? Am I really expected to throw away a perfectly good
scanner just because it's more than 5 years old? Does
anyone know of a driver or patch that can get these two
pieces of equipment talking again?

EPSON will only write driver that conform to the Twain standard, (see
www.twain.org for details). Unfortunately it is not always possible to
do this for the older scanners in the new operating systems. Your
scanner is more than 5 years old, try 8-10 years.
However it might still be possible with a third party driver such as
Vuescan (see www.hamrick.com) as these drivers are not Twain
compliant. This will have toi be connected via the SCSi interface
though. The Twain standard in XP does not allow support for legacy
devices (it was withdrawn after Windows 98 - Twain ver 1.6) so
parallel interfaces cannot be supported.
