I work for a dental lab that uses 'labmate'software, an
older dos program - we successfully loaded and ran this
program on computer with windows 98 for the last few
years. The lab purchased new computer this week with
windows xp - 'labmate software' requires that the
installation start at command prompt - when i try to load
with windows booted through msdos, it is not successful.
Any suggestions? Thank you! karen

Keep an older computer around for your ancient DOS program. Buy an updated
version of the software from the vendor.

Hi Karen,

WindowsXP has no underlying DOS layer for you to boot to. All you can
achieve is the DOS emulator, which will work for a lot of software. To load
it, start/run cmd from within the Windows environment. However, if the
software requires direct hardware access, you will not be able to run it in
the XP command environment, as that is not an allowed action.

You may want to check with the software vendor for any upgrades or patches
needed to allow the program to load and run in WindowsXP.
