I just visited a GAME store and noted I could get these, all pre-owned:

X Box console and 1 game pad - £40.00
Call Of Duty Three - £15.00
Far Cry Instincts - £8.00
Halo Two - £8.00

So far a total of £71.00 I have three games which are probably quite good which I can play on my 26" TV.

I was almost tempted to buy them there and then, and I've seen other pre-owned X-Box games for as little as £3.00.

But.

Are the graphics any good?
Anybody played any of those games? Any good?
Is only having a gamepad restrictive after being used to a keyboard and mouse?
Can I play DVD's on the X-Box?
And if so is playback any good?
Can I just hook a network cable into the X-Box to my router to enable online play?
Can I save games on the X-Box? (or is that a dumb question? ;) )
Is the whole thing worth the money?
Should I just stick to my PC Games?

The main reason I'm considering it is the single player version of CoD 3.

What do you all reckon?

Sorry to be Mr Doom, Flops, But if it goes wrong in a months time do you have any warranty??

I've no idea, I didn't think to ask.

I'd imagine they'd give 3 months or something, but I'll have to check.

Anyway, if it did go wrong soon after purchase and they wouldn't help out, I'd just total the shop :D

Thats a good price, although I've not played those games myself. We bought an xbox just before the 360 came out, but it hasn't really had that much use (mainly due to lack of time), but when I have played on it I've enjoyed it :) It took a while to get used to no WASD/Mouse controls, and I'm still not keen on FPS's on it - however RPGs and Platforms work well.

I don't think you can watch DVDs on it unless you buy a "kit" for it to enable it, or you mod it. I think you also have to buy an xbox live sub to play online via your router, I think its about £15 for a year if you buy a special pack.

You may be worth just buying 2/3 PC games that you really like if you don't think you'll play many games on it. Then again £71 isn't too bad at all for what you get and you can probably sell it on for not much less if you don't like it.

It's a great project in my mind - you can mod the hell out of them.
For example... mine has an 80GB HDD full of games, running a media centre which streams music/video wirelessly from my PC to my TV/Stereo!

Let me know if you need more info ;)

Well i have the ps2 ad xbox, but in all honesty i dont play thm much anymore.

Not bad, Better than the PS2, but your pc is better.

I have Farcry, but i dont play it, i cant do the control pad thing at all anymore!

yes, the movement aint half as good as a mouse. FPS are only good with the kb and mouse, but driving games work well with triggers. IMO.

Can I play DVD's on the X-Box?
Only if you buy the DVD remote and IR 'eye'

And if so is playback any good?
Its not bad....

Need an Xbox live sub, as Ian said.

Yep, but be warned there no way to back up your saves, unless you buy a memory card that fits in the pad. I had my old box go on me (hard drive failed) and lost the lot!

Thats your choice, but the price for the stuff you quoted above is good.

Should I just stick to my PC Games?
Well i dont play my Xbox or PS2 anymore...

Have been tempted with that myself, just wish you could use a kb and mouse.

Just my opinion.

Just seen your posts Kev, I've not tried that...yet. ;)

You can also play online free (nicely sidestepping XBox Live).
Halo2 is fun as is Far Cry..
Not up to today's PC standards - but it's switch on and play!
