I have several diskettes that were compressed using the old Stacker
compression system. When I attempt to 'mount' the disk using the
stacker.exe program I get a GPF 001:1431 error. Is there any way that I can
recover this data?

Stac Electronics abandoned Stacker back in 1998 after prices fell on
huge hard drives. That was before Windows XP was released. GPF errors
are typical of old Windows 3.x/9x products so it sounds like you have an
ancient version that is not compatible for running under an NT-based
version of Windows. You'll probably have to find an old Windows 9x box
to install and use it.

Use something like Microsoft VirtualPC to install an old version of windows
and transfer the files you want accross. Either that or get a friend with 9x
to do it for you.

Thanks for the advice. I found an old IBM Thinkpad with windows 98 and was
able to mount the drive in MS Dos mode. I copied the files to a directory
and have since transfered them. There is some utility in old windows
versions.
