I have an "old" Dell PowerEdge with over 1 gig of ram that I think
would make an excellant Terminal Server.

The OS is licensed for 35 users. None of them are currently being
used.

I would like to reimage the machine and set it up to be a TS on our
current network.

It is my understnading that as long as the person logging in has
access in the Active Directory of THIS LOCAL MACHINE, not necessarily
our domain server that no additional licensing is needed or required.

Can anyone give me some tips here?

Thanks,

Whether the machine is a domain member, stand-alone server or domain
controller has no impact on what licenses you need. Terminal Servers are
most often deployed as member servers of NT or Active Directory Domains.

If the server is 2000 and all clients are 2000 or XP Pro than you do not
need to purchase Terminal Server CALs. If the clients are NOT 2000 or XP Pro
and the server is 2000 then you need a TSCAL for each of these donw-level
clients. If the server is 2003 the you need a Terminal Server CAL
(per-device or per-user) for each client machine or each named user. You
also need an equal amount of Windows Server CALs, which it sounds like you
have 35.
