To anyone who might have an answer....I recently upgraded
from 98 and was wondering if XP actually deletes the file
or just uninstalls and hides them on the computer
somewhere.....I ask because the amount of free space that
I am showing on my computer doesn't seem to match the
actual amount that i should have?
Any response is greatly appreciated.

First they go to the Recycle bin.
Then you have to empty the recycle bin.
But hidden files and other factors can use up disk space
as well. What are the actual numbers you are seeing?

Depends on you.

If you did an clean install, your primary drive was reformatted and Windows
XP installed.

If you did an upgrade and choose not to save your prior OS, then the
Windows 98 files were deleted.

If you did an upgrade and choose to save your prior OS, then the Windows 98
files were saved to a folder.

Try going to Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs and look for an entry for
your Windows 98 OS. If you find one, select and then click on remove.
