I've tried all the tips listed in discussions so far, but none have helped me!

I now have to type http:// before any address in the IE6 address bar.

The only thing I have done between it working and now not working, is
install my printer (hp psc 2500 series).

An ideas?

I'm sure others here will also have some suggestions, but, you might try the
following and see if it will help:

Adding HTTP:// to web addresses -

You can check these keys and edit them, if necessary, as follows:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\URL\
DefaultPrefix default="http://"

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\URL\
Prefixes
"ftp"="ftp://"
"gopher"="gopher://"
"home"="http://"
"mosaic"="http://"
"www"="http://"

If these steps do not resolve your problem, please post back to this thread
with the details and any error messages.

Hope this helps

Greetings Jan Il!

The registry is/was intact, and I restored my system to the 6th September.
All was OK until I installed my driver for the HP 2510.

Further symptoms are that when My Computer Icon is started, the searching
torch is present for anything upto 5 mintues (this is a P4 3.4 1GB Ram PC!).
On clicking the drop-down box of the address bar, the drop-down list will
appear after a cup of tea.....

But, all looks to be OK, because (thanks to my 3 year old son) when the
Printer is switched on, everything works fine........

The printer is connected through a wireless broadband router to the PC I'm
using.

Hi Griff :-)
Greetings Jan Il!

Glad to hear that you and your son have managed to get your system back up
and running properly! ;=))

The slow dropdown can be caused by several things, but, you might try the
following:

1. Why does my Address Bar take so long to drop down?

Try clearing your history at tools\internet options\clear history button.
If you are still having problems, shut down all programmes and boot into dos
if you are using Windows 95 or 98. If using Windows ME use an appropriate
disc to access DOS. Run the following commands from the windows directory,
typically c:\windows\>

smartdrv
deltree history
deltree tempor~1

Reboot using ctrl, alt, del if using Windows 95 or 98. If using WindowsME
remember to remove the boot floppy.

Windows 2000 users will have to log in as Administrator to be able to delete
the folders in question directly from within Windows Explorer.

Windows XP users will be able to delete the folders from within Windows
Explorer as well, though they may need to log in as Administrator.

NOTE:

Different operating systems use different paths to the history, temporary
internet files and cookies folders. Check your system to make sure that you
are using the correct path for your machine. For example, you may find your
folders are located at ...\documents and settings\{identity}\{dir} or
similar.

also........

2. Try clearing your TIF Files:

Safely Delete the Temporary Internet Files
http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm

The temporary I.E. files folder is a cache for web pages that you have
visited. I don't know why Microsoft sets the default so high, but I have
seen 2gb set for storage. This and other setting can be changed to decreace
the size of the storage area, and supposedly delete the I.E. temp file when
you close the browser.

with the details and any error messages.

this must have something to do with running a printer wirelessly. I have the
problem, using an HP 2500 series printer. I see that from other posts HP
2500 seems to be a recurring theme. I'm not an expert and am still trying to
fix..but I suspect the problem revolves around that printer and its drivers.

Hi hkeric :-)

First, is it a new printer? If not, it may need to have the driver updated.
Check at the HP website to update the driver. If it is new, then try the
following.

1. Uninstall the printer from the Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel
2. Repair IE using the following

The Internet Explorer Repair Tool
http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/answers_5.htm#repair_tool

or......

Method 2 in this article works on earlier versions of Windows.
How to Reinstall or Repair Internet Explorer and Outlook Express in
Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=318378

or.................

If you have not already done so, then you might try a repair of IE6 as
follows:
http://support.microsoft.com/defaul...port/kb/articles/Q194/1/77.asp&NoWebContent=1
or
http://snipurl.com/6s3r

See if the problem still exists. If not, then try reinstalling the printer.
If the problem returns after the reinstall of the printer, chances are it is
not IE related and you should visit the HP website or forum and see what
they suggest.

If these steps do not resolve your problem, please post back to this thread
with the details and any error messages.
