The jobs are not getting deleted after they are initially printed. HP has a
couple of drivers that require that Bi-Directional be disabled in the ports
tab. Intel has some Printer servers that also require this setting.
If that's not it, check the disk security settings in
\windows\system32\spool\printers (this is where the jobs are stored before
printing and where they are if one enabled "Keep printed jobs" setting"), I
saw an instance when the jobs where no deleted after printing due to the
user not having rights in this directory and could not delete the file once
printed.
When printers disappear this is typically an indication that the spooler has
stopped. Check the event log to see if there is a Service Control event
stating the print spooler service has terminated unexpectedly. Print
drivers are the first suspect on the spooler service failing. Whenever
possible, use the drivers provided with the OS. XP and Server 2003 drivers
are compatible with Win2K you can install the drivers from those OS if you
have one of these systems CDs using the Have Disk selection. Also check the
manufacture drivers for the latest.
