Hello,

A friend of mine has an old computer with a soyo motherboard (don't
know version).... when he enters the bios he does not see an option to
"boot from cdrom".....

Is this just a matter of updating the BIOS to recognize cdroms?

Ideas?

Keith

More than likely, it will be a matter of just updating the bios. See if
there is even an update for the board on Google.

Good Luck,

Third-party troubleshooting is very difficult.

You might want to gather some information, like you need to know
whether he can find and use a BIOS update.

Does soyo have automated update?

Someone here mentioned a freeware program that will tell the
mainboard manufacturer and model, it's called "EVEREST Home Edition"

Good luck.

If the MB is quite old, the option might not exist at present and a
bios update might be your solution as you suggest. However the verbiage
is sometimes less obvious. Make sure you look for "Boot options, boot
sequence" and others that might allow the CD to be the first device
looked at for system files.

No. Some old computers from the mid 90's and earlier didn't support
boot from CDROM.
