Does anybody have an old motherboard & CPU going cheap?
Only criteria is that they take DDR Memory, have an AGP graphics slot and don't have onboard video.
At least a Socket A or Socket 478 though please.
If anybody actually has a Socket 478 board that meets the above requirents that will do me as I have a Celeron 1.7 CPU to suit.
Reason I'm after those bits is my current setup won't run Windows 98, which is the main reason I want to keep an old setup, solely to play older games.
It's an Aopen MX46 board with a Celeron 1.7, 1Gb DDR RAM and a 6800 256Mb grafix card.
Win 98 runs until I install the Nvidia drivers for the 6800, then it just won't load at all - strange. I suspect the onboard video may be influencing this. I've tried the last four sets of Nvidia Win 98 drivers for that card - all the same result. I have to boot into safe mode each time to uninstall the drivers.
Win XP and PC Linux OS 2007 run flawlessly on it, it's actually quite nippy considering it's spec.
I have a sound card and LAN card so onboard LAN & sound are not important.
So, if anybody has a cheap motherboard/CPU, Socket A; Socket 478 (board only will do); Socket 754 or Socket 939, please get in touch. Socket A preferred, but I ain't that fussy
