Is there a way to get my old serial port joystick to work in windowss XP using the joystick port on a soundcard
Reason being I do not like any of the new sticks out there now and would really rather use my good old stick instead of these new ones which I do not like at all.

Plug the controller in and then go into Control Panel/Game Controllers and
select Add, then find the controller in the listing. Windows XP should
install the basic drivers for you. If there is a problem in identification,
you may need to update the drivers for the hardware device hosting the game
port.

BTW: The joystick does not use serial connection. The connector is 15 pin
and uses a gameport connection.

While I largely agree with you, there have been a handful of devices that
plugged into a serial port. Those devices will not work in Windows XP at all
though.

I disagree...on ebay I got a serial to USB changer and am
using serial gamepad with a win98 game on XP computer.
In fact the win98 game (Thrillride Pinball) works better
and faster on XP.

Once you connect it to a USB converter it is no longer a serial device
anymore. =) The system sees it as a USB device. Are you sure it is a 9-pin
serial connector and not a 15-pin gameport connector? I have yet to see a
serial to USB converter, not to say they don't exist, but if they do I'd be
interested in knowing who makes it so I can test it.

According to the device spec it is a 15 pin gameport connector.
