Hi guys, right here's my issue -

I really want all my music and such from my old HDD, especially my brother as it was alot!

So i put it in "Slave" (It had either "Master Slave"/"Slave" so i put it in "Slave", is this wrong for starters?)

It seems to be recognising it in the BIOS? I go into "My Computer" and it says corrupt basically? Hmmm not a clue as to how this could have happened? :s

Thanks in advance.

If your HDD is set for Master & the DVD Drive is slave on the same cable, then the other HDD can be set as Master?
But on a different cable?

Got some more info?

Is your main drive (C) SATA or PATA(IDE).

Ditto your optical drive.

What is drive E? A card reader? A memory stick?

And I will assume HP Recovery (F) is the disk you're trying to transfer data from?

Is drive F SATA or PATA?

And finally, how are they all set up, that is, connected to your motherboard.

Regardless of all that, windows is recognising the HP Recovery disk and assigning it a drive letter, so I'll assume you have it connected correctly.

I don't understand the red bar below drive F, is that peculiar to Vista? And if so does that indicate that it's corrupt?

My bro has a HP lappy and the disk is partitioned into two, (C and the HP Recovery partition) At a guess i'd say that maybe E and F are the same physical disk as the HP Recovery section is less than 5gb. IIRC the HP partition is locked so you cant explore it like you would a normal drive.

So i would assume Beloni wants to get the data off E onto C. :)

G-Man what use would that be using his? I need the Data from this HDD you fool.

Hmmmmm so no one really knows? This blows.

My new HDD is SATA, along with the optical drive etc.

As you are running SATA drives and the drive you are trying to get the info of is an older IDE drive , try setting the IDE drive as a MASTER and see if that makes a difference . This is just a wild stab in the dark by the way .

Or you could try putting the drive in the external enclosure and accessing it that way . Worked for me with a corupted drive .

There ar no jumpers that need "setting" on a SATA drive ... you just plug 'em in.

No Bell Boy!

Fire up your old computer, plug in the external hardrive to it, copy all the songs onto the external hardrive, unplug it, then put it in your new computer and copy over the songs!

You nut :P
