Old Gateway Won't Recognize WD External

I installed the drivers needed for 98SE. There is no volume letter
that appears and no apparent recognition of the external drive other
than as a "USB" device in Device Manager.

Is there any way I can get the computer to recognize the drive?
 
Read the manual carefully. I have seen that sometimes in win98se you
have to go into device manager and properties and then check the little
box for removable. Reboot and the drive may be visible with a drive
letter.
