Old DOS program, way to get it to print with modern deskjet?

I found my Bannermania program recently. Bannermania makes great
banner-style "signs" for birthdays, etc. It's a marvel of a little
program. But, as can be imagined, I can't get it to work with my new
HP 5740 deskjet. Is there anything that can be done?

p.s., I'd be happy to share this little program. It's very small and
easy to put over in alt.binaries.freeware. Let me know.

Cheers!

I found a way to get many of my old DOS (6.2) programs to print to my Z11
that may work for you. My driver has an option for DOS printing. I checked
it and then go to DOS in a window and run the program from there. You can
also print plain text files this way by creating the text file and then
(from the DOS command prompt in a windows box) issuing the command
type xxxx.txt>prn

I understand better now what the problem is. It's the connection, I
think. I went to the printer settings window and changed the USB
connection to first LPT1 (brings back memories) and then COM1. The
program says the banner was printed out but since nothing is really
connected, nothing was printed. I'm wondering if connecting an old
printer in the back of my box, where the old printer connection is,
would work. I have an old Win98SE box with 2 USB connections but I
first had an older style HP hooked up with a regular connection way
back when.

Anyway, something to try to figure out. I just noticed that this
program was made by Broderbund back in 1989! Awesome. Sometimes
these old programs are real gems. This one sure is. With a simple
arrow click, it transmorgifies the banners in dozens of different
combinations. Incredible!

Thanks for the tip. I'll keep plugging away at this problem in my
spare time. Would be nice to have banners for birthdays and
anniversaries and such.

Cheers! :oD

I too have many DOS programs for which I need printouts but cannot
print it out of the HP Deskjet that is connected to the USB. I have
downloaded many print programs that claim printing anything to the
printer but nove work. I go to a firent who has a printer that is
connected to the LPT :-(

Why not? Let us all have a go at it :-)

Thanks

I posted it twice already over the weekend but they might not still be
there as it's a binary ng. Would you like me to re-post?

Thank you, I got it this morning. A wonderful program too for such a
small size. I still have Broaderbund's Print Shop Deluxe for Win31
that can do a lot more things in addition to banners.

The problem is how to get a print out off a printer connected to the
usb port.

Thanks again
