The odd thing here is that the domain shows up in network neighborhood. First make sure that the domain does not show up in Domains and Trusts and that
there is not a DC from the old domain listed in AD users and computers under Domain Controllers.
Next, if you ping the domain name from a command prompt do you get reply?
One possibility is that the Netlogon file did not correctly get updated when the domain was removed. One one of the DNS servers you can make a copy of
the Netlogon.dns and Netlogon.dbn under system32/config and then you can delete these two files, reboot the DNS which will recreate the files with the
current records.
