hello,
I recently set up DSL for relative who used to use a dialup
connection (modem) to the Internet. After DSL became active,
going to a URL in a browser (either netscape or IE6) would
cause a dialup-dialog-box to open which would ask whether a
dialup connection should be initiated. After deleting the
dialup connect in "Network & Dialup connections", the
frequency of such incidents decreased significantly. However,
even now, when a malformed URL is given to netscape, for example:
http://http://some.host/some/path
that old dialup-dialog-box comes back. I guess there are some
skeletons lurking in the registry closet. Does anyone know
how to rid this computer (W2K with SP2, btw) of it's real
or imagined dialup connection once and for all?
thanks,
R.U.
