Hello,

I have an old desktop (an Altarus Pro-ISA, although I have never heard of
that) that I am working on for a friend. It was working great. It was
running Windows 2000. Anyway, now it will not boot. Basically, when you turn
it on, it detects all of the drives, then it shows that list of some of the
hardware on the system including the processor and drives. It then begins to
load a list of PCI devices (in fact, it says PCI device listing....). It
lists the following PCI devices: IDE, Serial bus, Simple Comm, and Display.
Then it stops. I am not sure what would be the next step, but whatever it
is, its not there.

I tried to pull all unnecessary cards from their slots (modem, NIC), but no
luck. I also tried pulling the RAM except for one module. Also no luck. I
don't think the problem is the hard drive, because I dropped it in another
system (his new one) as a slave so I could pull some files off of it. I am
not sure what can be wrong with the system. That said, I am kind of at a
loss as to where to start. Before I turn it into a boat anchor, I would like
to try a few more things. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks,

Chris

you could try resetting the bios

there is usually a jumper next to the battery which will reset the bios
to minimum default...with the power off:
just move the jumper over for a few seconds...then put it back to the normal
position
