Hello Everyone,
I'm fixing up an older system for my cousin. He may be using it for
some light gaming, but it will more than likely only be used to watch
movies and web browsing. I have a choice between two cards, a Rage
Fury Pro VIVO and a Voodoo Banshee. Honest opinions here, which card
is the better card for his needs.

The system stats otherwise are:
Athlon 1400 w\392 MB of RAM
Asus 7S333 MB
20GB Harddrive.

Thanks All,
Linwood

What operating system? 98SE or XP? Also, what games is he gonna be playing?

XP Pro. As for games, I really don't know. More than likely games in
the discount bin, 2 or more years old.

In case you did not know, 3dfx sold its assets to nVidia before XP become
widespread, so there were never any official Banshee drivers for XP.

ATi produced XP drivers for the Rage Fury. However, ATi drivers were flaky
back then, and the official drivers *may* not work any better than the
myriad of 3rd-party Banshee drivers for XP...

How knowledgeable is your cousin with installing/uninstalling video card
drivers?

Victor Davion's old regiment?

Yeah, I knew that, but there are unoffical drivers out there. Besides,
wouldn't the other 2000 drivers work as well? Okay, but drivers aside,
which is the better card, hardware wise?

He wouldn't be installing them, I would. I'm setting the system up so
that it works when he wants to use it.
Victor Davion's old regiment?

Yup. The moderators of rec.games.mecha claimed the 10th Lyran Guards
as our mascot unit when it was commented that we were a Revenant of
our former selves, due to loss of mods.

Neg, the Windows 2000 drivers provide 2D functionality in XP, but not OpenGL
or Direct3D.

The Banshee... unless you come across a game that absolutely demands running
in 32 bpp (Delta Force 2, for example).
