Hi
I've spent about 5 hours trawling Google Groups and MS KB for an
answer, and found lots of other people with same/similar problems but
no resolutions...
Have Windows ME (yeah, I know), Office 2K, Outlook 2K. All of a sudden
OL will not start up. It begins to setup the application, gets to the
'Outlook Today' screen with a bit of info showing, then "The Operation
Failed" pops up and the OK button terminates Outlook. The other
symptom is that the Mail icon in control panel does nothing. I.e. I
cant edit or add mail profiles, so its as if the problem lies there.
Also sometimes a reference to no .PST file in C:\Program Files\Common
Files\SYSTEM\Mapi\1033\95. Is this where my profile should be stored?
Is the NEWPROF.EXE in there the mail icon in control panel? It does
nothing either.
Have repaired/reinstalled O2K but no effect. Have tried various
Outlook switches (e.g. safe, cleanviews) but seem to have no effect.
At this stage I have no clue what has happened, except that I recall
that I completed a Windows update just before it happened, but I can't
remember what the update was for. This maybe a red herring.
Any help would be hugely appreciated. It seems a solution to this
might help a lot of people.
