Installed office 2003 on several of our machines, a
mixture of xp & 2000pro and they all have the same
problem.

When you load outlook it just comes up with the following
error then closes;

'Unable to open your default e-mail folders. The
microsoft Exchange Server computer is not available.
Either there are network problems or the MsExchange
Server is down for maintenance'

I've checked the server and its fine, all the other
outlook clients (2000, xp) work ok.

Please could someone shed some light on this problem!

Was Office 2003 installed on top of a previous version of Office? The
reason that I ask is that you might want to try and create a new mail
profile (don't copy the old one) and see if you get any additional error
messages.

Due to the Swen virus, all e-mails sent to this account will be deleted
w/out reading.

PS - The only thing I can think of is that you might be missing one of the
following registry keys, but the error message would be very different.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Rpc\ClientProtocols]
"ncacn_np"="rpcrt4.dll"
"ncacn_ip_tcp"="rpcrt4.dll"
"ncadg_ip_udp"="rpcrt4.dll"
"ncacn_http"="rpcrt4.dll"

hmm... do me a favor and start outlook with the /rpcdiag command line
switch. is outlook establishing a connection to the dc/gc?

tried removing the profile and starting again, I've also
tried a fresh install and it still comes up with exactly
the same error

it establishes a connection with the directory, and the
line underneath flashes and looks like it says mail, then
it disappears and the error msg comes up
