Thank you for the info. At least now I know that there is
no way to defeat this, and I will not waste my time trying
to find a solution to a default behavior. It just seems
Draconian for MS to name my files for me!
By archiving this way, I keep my PST files a "manageable"
size. In my job I write contracts for highway
construction projects. For integrity issues (i.e. "I
did/didn't tell you to include blah blah blah in this
contract" said the Boss, and the humble assistant
replied, "I have a copy of the message you sent", to which
the Boss replied, "Oh, maybe I told you wrong".), I keep
all emails, contacts, appointments and tasks archived by
year for reference. I have a considerable amount of each
of theses Items. I have contacts from MDOT , Contractors
and a personal contacts list for family and friends. I
make notes in my archived meeting appointments. There are
usually several meetings for each project, so as contract
preparation progresses I have a history of the details
discussed at each meeting. If I kept all items in one
archive it would create one HUGE file.
I just wish there was an option to allow Outlook to use my
file names. Oh well, another reason I'm a disgruntled
Office user.
And again, thanks for the Info.

There's no way to defeat that default behavior. I'm not
sure there's much to be gained, though, from using
separate PST files for different item types, compared with
opening one archive PST with multiple folders.
