I'm having trouble getting things back to normal in a reinstallation
correction. After a couple of years on Office 2000 I had to temporarily
revert to Office 97 because of a software problem and misplaced Office 2000
disks. I was able to purchase Office 2000 and reinstalled (backed up
outlook.pst from c:/windows prior to reinstall). When I started up OL, it
created mailbox.pst in Windows/Local Settings/Application
Data/Microsoft/Outlook and uses it as primary.
Unable to import my stuff properly from the outlook.pst, I copied
outlook.pst to the new directory as mailbox.pst overwriting the newly
created mailbox.pst file. All my contacts are listed perfectly clearly, but
when I want to send an e-mail I am told that my address book is empty and I
find no listing underneath Address Book for Contacts. How do I get things
back to where they need to be. The data is there and I can see my contacts
from both personal folders, but I can't see them when I click on the "To:"
list tab when composing a new e-mail.

Thanks.

Never overwrite a PST. It corrupts your profile every time.
You failed to post your mail support mode of Outlook 2000, which we would
need to know to tell you how to fix this.

Mail support mode ... help me out here.

OK, I'm corporate workgroup setup. Is this what you're looking for?

OK, I got it. Here's the step by step in case it helps anyone else.

Click Contacts on the outlook bar.
Click "File" then "Folder" and select "Properties for "Contacts""
Go to the "Outlook Address Book" tab and check "Show this folder as an
e-mail address book"
Click OK and you're done!

Thanks for the help.

Question: Will Office2003 run on Win98-SE?

I made the same error in Outlook 2002. I did what you suggested and now I
have 2 files labeled Contacts. One of them has nothing in it; the other
contains my contacts as I want them. Unfortunately, the first one comes up
as the default when I try to access from the send page. Is there a way to
delete that Contacts file and leave the one I want as the default?
Thanks.

Right. You got it. Sorry I didn't get back to you. I was gone for a day.
Glad you figured it out on your own.

Jim,

Before deleting the other contacts as Russ suggested, I would rename it
since they both list as "Contacts." Do this at the same place that you
would delete it. Should be able to click on it and select "Properties" to
get you to the place to do it. Rename the one you think is the empty one,
but don't delete it until you have confirmed which one it is.

Not really necessary. No data is ever deleted, only the connection. If you
delete the wrong connection, re-enable it and delete the other.
