OL 2007 email problems

XP SP2, just installed Outlook 2007, upgrading from 2003. I configured my
email account, test message indicates it's working. Despite checking the
appropriate boxes to schedule it to seek new email every few minutes, it will
only Send/Receive when I invoke that command, not on a schedule. How do I
set it up to check automatically every, say, 1 minute? I tried all the
options dialogue boxes, rebooted, etc. Despite all attempts, it only checks
when I ask it to. I gather that some article in the Knowledge Base
acknowledges a "problem" with this issue, but the fix I was told to try
doesn't work.

Also, how can I configure Outlook to check for incoming messages *without*
invoking Send also?

You should never set the send/receive interval to a value as small as one
minute. Five minutes is about the absolute minimum you should use, if you
have a fast net connection. It is the send/receive interval that controls
the frequency. While viewing the Inbox, press Alt-Ctrl-S to bring up the
Define Send/Receive Group dialogue. The setting is there.
Also, how can I configure Outlook to check for incoming messages
*without* invoking Send also?

Asjust that in the Send/Receive group as well. In the dialogue described
above, select the send/receive group (usually "All ccounts"), click Edit,
select the account, and uncheck the box that specifies you wish to send. As
long as you have the "Send immediately when connected" option checked, your
messages will still go out when you click Send and not stay in the Outbox
until you specifically send them with Send/Receive.
