Sorry if I am being unclear but I am obviously confused.
I will try to be a little more detailed.
I have a an empty text box that is next to the Address
book icon so it probably is related to the address book.
HOWEVER, on this same computer up until yesterday, if I
typed "Dean" into that box and hit enter, it would bring
up a window titled Choose Contact with a list of Contacts
names only of everyone in my contacts list that had the
name Dean as part of their first or last name. It would
include contacts that have only a personal phone number
and not an electronic addrss as well as those with
electronic addresses. You then click on one and it brings
you to their contact. My partners computer is STILL
exhibiting this behavior using the same public contacts
folder.
Since yesterday, my computer has changed behavior. Now
when I type "Dean" in that same box, it brings up a
different window titled "Check Names" with only those
names that have electronic addresses along with thier
electronic address type etc.
I just looked again at my partners computer (Also running
Windows XP and OL 2003) and it retains the earler
behavior described above, not the new behavior of my
computer. He doesn't need to have the contacts folder
open or selected at the time. He can be in his inbox and
it still perform as indicated.
Let me know if you need more information and thanks for
sticking with me.

You haven't helped me much. If you type "Dean" where?
If it is within the Outlook Address Book, then it will only turn up matches
with electronic addresses, since that is all the OAB contains.
If it is in a Contacts Folder, than all possible Contacts should appear.

I see that is what is happening but I thought I was
getting a complete list until recently. Am I incorrect?
Basically, I have 3 contacts folders, some Public and
some personal. All are listed as Outlook Addressbooks. If
I type "Dean", I want it to give me a list of all people
who meet that criterion, whether they have
an "electronicAddress or not. Is that not built in to
Outlook? If I don't use the "find " in addressbooks, is
there so where else to do it?
TIA,
-Dean-

How are you doing this search?
The Outlook Address Book only contains electronic
addresses.

I have been using OL 2003 over a hosted exchange server
for 2 months. After working as expected until
yesterday,
when I do a search in the address book for a contact,
it
only displays the contact if that contact has an email
address or fax number. If not, it says no such contact
can be found.
I checked to make sure that the contacts folder is
listed
as one of the address.
Any suggestions?
TIA,
-Dean-
