It is apparent from this newsgroup and other MS tech support areas that
there is a problem connecting to Exchange Server 2000 with OL 2003.

I have a 512k ADSL line and managed to get connected first time (LAN router
connection), however, I have now wasted many hours of my time (which I won't
be able to charge for) trying to get OL2003 to connect to the same (remote)
Exchange Server 2000 over LAN routed ISDN without success. It would appear
that no matter how long I set the connection timeout in OL2003 to be it
times out after approx 30 secs. The ISDN connection is "live" to the
Internet all the time and there is no problem pinging the remote Exchange
Server. With OL2002 (XP) it would take approx. 45 seconds to retrieve the
server mailbox folders back to Outlook but 30 secs is just not long enough.
I have an unhappy client who wants to upgrade and I'm p***ed off as I feel
like I'm hitting my head against a brick wall.

Is there something MS is not telling IT professionals? It would appear that
this is a major bug which needs an immediate response from the MS Outlook
technical team.

Come on MS help out those people that support YOU!

See if setting the DWORD "ConnectTimeout" under
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook\RPC does what you
need (I think the value is in milliseconds).

Do you have a VPN set up? Do you have a firewall?

Pinging it by name or by IP address? Is there some kind of firewall in the
connection? If so, what ports do you have open?
