Yes. Open "Printers", select your printer icon, right click for
"properties", Details tab, you should see "print to the following
port" and there you can select a Com (serial) port. (This is for
Win98, but I doubt it's much different for other versions.) You'll
need an appropriate serial cable of course, and probably need to
change some settings on the printer.

I Have done that, but still didn't get any response from the device.
If that is all that needs to be done on the computer, then I would only have
to figure out how to change the baud-rate and other settings on the printer.
(am I on the right track do you think?)

Thanks, Naomi....

The service manual is at
<http://www.eoeminolta.com/downloads...als/ML320-321/ML 320T-321T service manual.pdf>

The user manual is at
<http://www.eoeminolta.com/downloads...als/ML320-321/ML 320-321 Turbo user guide.pdf>

Both say the serial interface is "optional", and don't have much about
it.
But the latter on page E23 says:
"To print out a listing of the settings for all menu
items, regardless of the emulation selected or the
accessories installed, enter the Menu Mode, then
press SHIFT + PRINT QUALITY."

That should tell you the current settings. The same page tells you how
to change these; I assume that's how you'd set up the serial
interface.

[top-posting deleted, please don't do that]

Are you sure you have the right cable? An ordinary modem cable will not
work. The wiring is different, and some of the pins are connected
together internally at each end.

I have followed the serial cable pin-out guide in the printer manual.
Unfortunately I won't get another chance to try anything with this printer
until next Thursday.

A serial interface is not standard with the ML320, are you sure your
machine is actually fitted with one. It plugs in beside the standard
parallel printer port, come as an add-in card. Just thought I'd ask.
