OKI 5200 memory, also toner reset fuses

I just got a 5200NE and like it. I want to add more memory. Several places
list compatible memory much cheaper than Okidata's outrageous prices. But
there is yet cheaper memory that looks like it ought to work. does anybody
here know if generic 256MB SODIMM DRAMs will work? They can be found for
around $40.

Also: Although I am just starting on toner, I will eventually want to refill
toner cartridges. I gather the machine expects to see a fuse that it will
blow; Places are selling these on ebay around $7. Two questions: (a) why
wouldn't a generic 1/8-amp fuse work? These can be had for a few cents each.
I don't care if they don't plug in like the original, I am sure I can work
around that. (b) For that matter it should be trivial to make a simple
circuit that presents a short circuit for a fraction of a second and then
opens up, but can be reused unlike a fuse. Has annybody tried this?

Thanks,
Bob Wilson

It would likely work. The deal with the fuses you buy is they are liket
installed on an assembly you attach to the cartridge, rather that a bare
fuse you have to replace.

Short story:
Compatible doesn't mean it'll work the same, Caveat Emptor.

Long story:
I have been shopping for memory for my printer. I have found that
most sites list compatible memory that has a CAS latency of 3 instead
of 2. This means that the memory is slower. In theory, if the printer
recognizes that the memory is slower, it could change the way it
accesses the memory, and it could run OK, just somewhat slower. If the
printer does not recognize this, it may become flaky. I would be very
cautious - learn what memory the factory supplied, and get additional
memory that is the same type.

These are of course good points, but I don't know how to find what OKI
supplies short of spending $500 for 256MB! Is there someone here who
can look at an official OKI memory module and read off whatever numbers
it has on it so I can decode them?
Thanks,
