Heya fellow geeks...

MS sent me a "way' to get the Windows Genuine Advantage...and want to
completely update my software...and give me Guardian...Security
center...the SP2 package, et al.

I'm running NIS 2004..and i know alot of people have had problems with
running NIS and SP2.

Anyone running the NEW Windows Advantage and keeping NIS active without
any problems?

Thanks for the feedback...

I think you got taken for a ride. Guardian security??? I don't think
that is a Microsoft product. You say "MS sent me ...", sent you? Sent
you how? By email? Microsoft does no such thing, most likely you got a
bogus email.

That was my mistake John....I meant Defender....not Guardian.

I don't see how Windows Defender would interfere with Norton

At this time, support for the beta version of
Windows Defender
is being provided through the following Microsoft newsgroups:

I've had problems BOTH with NIS and McAfee on Windows XP.

I've currently signed up with Windows OneCare (currently in Beta ... will
cost $49.95 a year per 3 systems - meaning you can install on 3 systems).

Does the following:

1. VirusScan - hooked into Windows Messenger, ...
2. Firewall
3. Tune-ups
4. Backups
5. Monitors Windows Defender

I have Defender on my system as well. Talked directly to Microsoft rep on
phone, they plan on a SpamKiller and Registry Maintenance tool in final
product.

If you still want to use Defender and NIS, you may want to turn off
Anti-Spyware part, but check it first.

By the way, the new Windows Live tools ... are going to eliminate most of
these suites out there ... plus be incorporated throughout Windows and IE.

Heya Larry...

Well...I went for broke...(figured my hard drive needed to be cleaned
up anyway)...and installed the SP2 with Defender, on my system WITH
Norton Internet Security 2004...

MS sent me the whole enchilada...with numerous "hotfixes".... etc
etc...

Nothing after that seemed to work right....NIS went awry...i tried to
uninstall the new hotfixes to see if that might help...BIG MISTAKE!....

I know MS is the only game in town, but trust me, I'm not the only one
out there looking for a PC software solution, and I'm not a big fan
Apple...but, if this keeps up, even though MS owns a stake in that
too..its gotta be better than XP...

Did you check to see if NIS 2004 installed as you did, was compatible
with SP2 and all the hot fixes?
