I recently bought a i550 canon inkjet. I use a b&w laserjet for most of my
printing, and only need the inkjet once in awhile. It may sit idle for
weeks. Should I expect any problems with the printheads, cartridges, etc.,
from non-use? Is it necessary to fire a print off once a week or so?

Canon's new "i" series should not be affected by lack of daily use,
they are quite well designed. Experiment, leave it alone for a couple
of weeks and see how it behaves. If it works fine after two weeks, try
a month.

I have the i850. Unfortunately, I like using it so much that it rarely
gets a day off, so I can't help you much there. Mine has never required
a head cleaning because of a clog (it just doesn't clog). I refill with
quality bulk inks.
