Been using AntiSpyware since the spring and it seems to do a good job on my
PCs. Our organization is facing a malware challenge (who isn't?), and we're
looking anxiously at the future to see if Defender will be an
enterprise-level solution. I know we're about to start another beta cycle -
if MS doesn't wrap up the betas soon, we're going to have to go with another
solution, or start ripping users out of their Adminstrators group, which is
going to cause all sorts of headaches.

Realistically speaking, when might Defender be released?

Original predictions (stated publicly by Microsoft spokespersons) were "this
year." Since then, there's been one statement quoted in Announcements--
attributed to Microsoft--that says that might slip. I don't know how long
"slip" might be, though--so I should probably stop there.

Here's the story straight from Mike Nash, in a public chat minutes ago:

Q: [1] ccan you tell us moer about windows defender & any eta?

A: We're continuing development of Windows Defender (formerly Windows
AntiSpyware) beta 2 for Windows XP and building it into Windows Vista. It
will appear in the next Windows Vista CTP build. We expect the XP beta 2
version in the first half of 2006. You can follow progress on the new
antimalware blog at <http://blogs.technet.com/antimalware/>;.
