This is for Mr Weldon:I'm done asking questions.

Since there is no site, that anyone mentioned, which makes direct
comparisons between each AV program, I've decided to stick with NAV
2005.

So, you won't here me ask which is better because no one could answer
that since no website with comparisons were suggested.

p.s. Do you talk to people in person the way you do on usenet??

A number of websites were suggested - a number of times.
If you couldn't be bothered to read them the first time, I'm surprised that
people had the patience to come back later and continue a discussion with
you.

And when did you ever ask for such a site to provide comparisons amongst
several AV programs? What you asked was, "I wanted you all's opinion on
AVF Free Vs AVAST". That's just 2, repeat, 2 anti-virus programs, and
you asked for opinions rather than technical comparisons. If you had
asked what you claimed to ask, maybe someone wouldv'e suggested
visiting:

Then ask for that. You didn't ask for comparisons. You asked for
opinions. You asked only about Avast and AVG in one thread and then
about Norton and AVG in another. You got the discussion that you asked
for.

Yep, especially when they ask dumb questions (because it wasn't what
they asked and then they bitch about getting answers for what they DID
ask). Too much mold on your brain cells for us to telepath what you
meant to say but didn't say. Of course, it makes it so easy for every
respondent to have to wade through multiple threads rather than YOU
sticking to one thread to ask about opinions ... not! Usenet is not a
chat room where no one goes back to the old prattle but just snags the
latest posts. In Usenet, you post and you wait, and further discussion
remains under the same thread (unless you start a NEW topic).

I sense my being unwelcomed here.

I do apologize to those that I offended it really was NOT my intent.
I had posted an earlier thread asking which was 'best' and then later
posted which of [2] were best.

I just thought it was something to do when asking about viruses but
then I was pounced on for netiquite which I never understood why it
was ever used.

College merely makes information available.

Dumb people cannot do anything with information, and cannot figure out
what they don't know, so they cannot figure out what questions to ask.
"Dumb" has no relationship with education.

"Educated, but dumb" people blame others for their own dumbness.

Not really. Regulars tend to be brusque with newbies that cross-post to
unrelated groups, post off-topic messages, or ask silly questions, like
"it's broke, what do I do". It helps to do *some* of your own research
before posting rather than post a lazy ass question (i.e., put in some
effort before asking) unless, of course, you are very tight on time and
are hoping to get a quick question (but which engenders the same type of
response). Newsgroups isn't the same as prattle/chat clients; i.e.,
there is less immediacy in the communication in newsgroups where you
post and *wait*. You are expected to provide sufficient details so
there is enough context for respondents to understand your question or
topic. We can only answer the question you asked, not the question that
you meant to ask, so don't whine when you didn't get the answer that you
were trying to get when you asked the wrong question. Just elaborate
and ask again, and keep it in the same thread rather than bouncing all
over in multiple threads.

If you intend on participating in Usenet, you need a thick-skinned ego.
If yours is bruised easily then you won't survive. Obstinance also
helps. Netiquette is helpful as even social etiquette is helpful,
especially when you are the one asking for help and want to pry it out
of others. The links that I provided simply provide *guidelines* for
netiquette. There are no absolute rules regarding posting to Usenet as
many, MANY users have proved. At least try to compose a post that you
would think appropriate to ask a teacher or coworker that doesn't have
the background of your particular problem.

If you want to see some heavy-duty shit flying between posters, go visit
the following groups: 24hoursupport.helpdesk, alt.spam, and NANAE
(news.admin.net-abuse.email). There are love-hate sets of users over
there whose entire online existence is to lambaste and slander each
other. There was so much "noise" in the NANAE group that I stopped
bothering to lurk over there (i.e., nothing much of value to glean from
that group) and only obstinance keeps me in the other 2 groups
mentioned. I've never visited them but have heard some of the soc.*
groups are very vicious.
