OK, I Hate Windows with all my Heart....Please HELP ME

To cut a VERY looooong story short.
1) After running an anti virus i had to re-boot, upon login i got error
message "Windows is unable to verify licence for this computer" and logged
off.

I could get to safe mode and was advised to use "repair facility" New error
" There is a newer version of windows etc etc etc "

Ok, I will remove SP2 and then repair ! No, when trying to uninstall
SP2, a New error ! "missing or damaged file, unable to uninstall ! "

Now, being a relative novice i thought in my infinate wisdom, i would change
the BIOS boot sequence and re-boot from the XP Pro CD and do a completly new
install.

Fantastic, it worked, BUT...ALL my files, programs and folders are i can see
in "explore" but i cant use them, this includes MS Office (all programs)

Is there a simple bit of code that will transfer my old desk top settings
and start menu onto this new install XP Pro from old XP Pro.

Please please help.

Nope.

Looks like it's time to get out all your original installation disks.

Ah, now is the new problem.....firstly, i cant delete all these old
programs...and there is Tonnes !
Plus the company that rpe-installed the PC have gone bankrupt and are
uncontactable

Plus, i run a website (front page) for a sports club that needs updating
twice a week and all their files are in the old my docs folder

Any ideas now ?

You will want to go back and boot from that XP cd again to do a new
installation, but this time delete the old partition or any partitions on the
drive. Once done create a new partition and run a format ntfs (quick). That
should get rid of anything on the drive. As for your website, all those files
should be backed up on the ftp server you upload it to, no?

Good Luck.

Break out your Frontpage installation media because you'll need to re-install it to get it working again.

In most cases (in all cases from my experience) you can reinstall the
programs into the same directories they're installed in now, and all
will be fine.

Yes, but you already said you can't get to it anyway. I have no answers as to
how, or even if you'd be able to retrieve the information off your old
partition.

Once you do what I said, the cd should reinstall windows like new, though
you will have to reinstall all your old programs from discs or downloads
again.

Before doing anything, you need to back up all your email and data. If you
don't know how, get some to help you or you will lose the data forever.

Here is a possible quick fix:

1) Google the Internet and locate info on slipstreaming Service Pack 2 into
your orignal XP install CD (you will be creating a new install CD durning
this process).

2) Try a repair re-install on top of you mal-fuctioning XP.

I am not sure about an NTFS Quick format; What that does is rewrite the TOC
only, rather than erasing anything, and if he has any bad sectors on that
drive, now is the time to find them, a quick format will not do that.

Since these files are so important, you might try installing a new hard
drive and loading the OS on it and then accesssing the old files on the
secondary drive..
