Hi bdeditch
You don't mention the version of Windows you are using, which really is a
must when asking for help in the newsgroups, nor what the problem is that
you feel you need to reintsall IE. Perhaps if you tell us what the
problem
is we can help. A repair may not be the answer to the problem.
NOTE FOR SP2: If you have SP2 installed you will first have to
uninstall
it before doing the Repair:
Download the utility file at the link below, then double click on it to
run
it and it will automatically reset the "IsInstalled" value to 0 (zero)
for
you. Then try the install again.

After the successful reinstall by any of the above methods, go
immediately
to the Windows Update website and let it scan your computer for any
necessary updates.
If you are not able to access the Internet, follow the instructions to
reset
the Registry below. Be sure to backup the Registry first.
Step-by-step instructions for a manual fix: If you have SP2, uninstall
it
before doing the following:
First, go to Start>Run>type in regedit and hit enter
Click on File on the toolbar and click Export to back up your Registry.
Make sure you make a not of where it is saved in case you need to restore
it.
To reset the IsInstalled value to 0 (zero):
Go to [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>SOFTWARE>Microsoft>Active Setup>Installed
Components>scroll down to {89820200-ECBD-11cf-8B85-00AA005B4383}]
Here are the "How to" steps to reset the value:
When you have clicked on the above {...} file, scroll down to
"IsInstalled"
in the right side panel and double click on it. A dialog box will open
with
a window that has a 1 in it. To replace the 1, just type 0 (zero) to
replace the 1, click OK and close.
Then try the install again.
As soon as you have a successful install, go immediately to the Windows
Update and let it scan and install all the necessary updates before you
do
any browsing.
Hope this helps.
