What do I do to get a freesh installon IE 6 , I am running windows ME

Hi bdeditch :-)

You don't mention the version of Windows you are using, which really is a
must when asking for help in the newsgroups, nor what the problem is that
you feel you need to reintsall IE. Perhaps if you tell us what the problem
is we can help. A repair may not be the answer to the problem.

NOTE FOR SP2: If you have SP2 installed you will first have to uninstall
it before doing the Repair:

Download the utility file at the link below, then double click on it to run
it and it will automatically reset the "IsInstalled" value to 0 (zero) for
you. Then try the install again.
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm (line 114, right)

After the successful reinstall by any of the above methods, go immediately
to the Windows Update website and let it scan your computer for any
necessary updates.

If you are not able to access the Internet, follow the instructions to reset
the Registry below. Be sure to backup the Registry first.

Step-by-step instructions for a manual fix: If you have SP2, uninstall it
before doing the following:

First, go to Start>Run>type in regedit and hit enter
Click on File on the toolbar and click Export to back up your Registry.
Make sure you make a not of where it is saved in case you need to restore
it.

To reset the IsInstalled value to 0 (zero):

Go to [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>SOFTWARE>Microsoft>Active Setup>Installed
Components>scroll down to {89820200-ECBD-11cf-8B85-00AA005B4383}]

Here are the "How to" steps to reset the value:

When you have clicked on the above {...} file, scroll down to "IsInstalled"
in the right side panel and double click on it. A dialog box will open with
a window that has a 1 in it. To replace the 1, just type 0 (zero) to
replace the 1, click OK and close.
Then try the install again.

As soon as you have a successful install, go immediately to the Windows
Update and let it scan and install all the necessary updates before you do
any browsing.

Hope this helps.

I get this same error, I have tried the Reg edits to set the IsInstalled to
0, and rebooted, displays message, IE is uninstalled, Remove personal
settings, I say "Yes" and reboot again. I still cannot reinstall IE, and
even when I try to browse with IE it will not display any pages. It will not
even show any network activity. Firefox browses fine though. How do I
reinstall IE 6 on a WinXP SP2 system?

I even tried totally deleting IE and Reg entries and it still will not
install stating that
"Setup was unable to install all the components, please close..."
What do you do, when it won't work? I think I am about to restart from
scratch, but I was hoping that there would be a fix from here first.

If you have tried to delete IE and deleted any reg entries, then you have
likely damaged the system. IE is a core part of the Windows XP program, and
unlike IE6 versions of the past, it *can not* be uninstalled without
damaging or disabling the IE and Windows system. The only thing I can
suggest as this point is that you first a scan for any scumware with your
antivirus, and then do a full Repair install. Follow the instructions here:

Yes...a good Rule of Thumb is that you should always remember that "Beta"
means it is still in development, and not a production program, thus, there
are still glitches and problem areas to be resolved. It is best to stick
with production programs. Some Beta's work ok on some machines, but, can
trash others. I know....I'm also an MS beta tester, and after my first beta
adventure I learned not use my main PC for that kind of testing. I have a
separate machine for that. <g>

I also had a problem with the recent WD Beta install, and after a weeks
trying, nothing would fix the problem, thus I had to do a full repair
install as I suggested to fully clear the residual problems. However, some
use the program without issue. :-)

Hope this helps.

How to make a good newsgroup post:
http://www.dts-l.org/goodpost.htm

I have tried many times and many ways to update my internet explorer it
is
version 6.0.2600.0000IS
Product ID: 52783-010-7215742-14714
Update version: Q321232; Q324929
This is a customized version of internet explorer

I went to PCpitstop and it said the version also had telus.net which
was a DSL provider in Canada

The update will go and then get to about 95% and then a little box
shows up saying the " Setup was unable to install all the components,
please close....................... ( you know the rest)

What do I do to get a freesh installon IE 6 , I am running windows ME
