I have received an error code 10 (device cannot start) for
the subject device. The computer is part of a network,
for internet access purposes, in my home. It is connected
to broadband cable through a hub. I recently upgraded my
firewall which seemed to result in the problem. I have
uninstalled the new firewall and have gone back to the
prior version. I have tried uninstalling the device and
reloading the drivers, to no avail. I don't understand
how this device failure affects my internet access, but
this appears to be the only problem on the computer, so it
must be the cause. Any ideas?

What sort of errors are you getting when trying to connect
to the Internet?
Are you using a cable modem or a router?
Some quick things to try...

Try troubleshooting the Internet problem as a network
problem first. The 1394 controller shouldn't have
anything to do with it unless you're connected through it
as a network device to your cable modem/router. In
your "Network and dial-up Connections" see if the 1394
controller appears. If so, disable it and proceed with
the instructions provided to you by your ISP to get your
cable modem working and call their techs. Disregard the
1394 controller when talking to techs at your ISP.
They'll be too happy to call it the problem.
