I'm not sure this is the right place or not..but I'll fire away at any rate...

A week or two ago I when to go and play an mp3 on my computer while surfing. but the mp3 player took forever to gear up and my internet began being sluggish then it down and out jammed on me. the mp3 player also jammed up on me. they both froze for awhile before gearing up.

even when I just start up my computer and select an mp3 to listen to its sluggish (the program) then when it does start up its fine. but if i start the internet after i had just played an mp3 it freezes up and i have to restart my computer.

also when I go to shut down my computer everything but the background and the mouse goes away and it stays that way until i hit the power button on the tower.

So I thought that it was a virus so I did a virus scan. then when it came to a file known as "WINDOWS/SYSTEM32" the scanner froze too!

I asked my computer savvy friend - he buildt this thing - but he moved to Delaware with his girlfriend on a whim. so he wasn't able to come over and take a look at it. but he said that it sounds like a register problem.

any ideas on how i can fix this - is this something that could snow ball into something worse?

I barely know anything about computers what I know is amature at best.

-whew-

thanks for taking a look at this and thanks in advance for all who help me out!

I run windows xp
And use avast anti-virus.

First off what are you using to play Mp3's..? Are they tracks ta you have stored on your computer and are plying through Windows Media Player or is it some other form of media player..If it is the later then you could have a Malware problem...But fear not help is at hand....If you are using a programme different to Wimdows Media Player, go into ControlPanel>>Add/Remove Programes and remove the media player you are using...Then click here Windows Defender and install and run Windows Defender...This should sort out the MAlware problem and all your freezing...Let me know how you get on....

I was useing Nero for listening to music or anysort of other media.
I also used Windows. but both 'grams froze or rather, Jammed, as i call it.

I downloaded the 'gram and it would appear as so that I can't run it.

what am i doing wrong???

You need a legal copy of windows to run Windows Defender .
Have you got a firewall running ?
Do a full scan with your Avast anti virus .
Is your Windows fully up to date with all the security patches etc ?

Well, my pal built my computer and when it crashed the last time, I was told that he put in a non-legal version on there -gulp-but when I told him that I wanted it ti be legal he made it happend which in turn emtyed my wallet.

Everytime I go to run my anti-virus program it stalls when it gets to windows/sytem32

I googled "Problem with windows/system32" and I got a lot of info, but nothing seemed to match my problem. the problem of jamming or freezeing when I go to open some sort of media and when I go to shut down.
