When trying to update from office recieved the message
unable to update. It appears that they cannot read my
office proudct and may have an installer missing. I do not
have this problem with windows update.
I have
Office Xp Professional
Windows Xp professional
Amd athlone 2100
I also run Ad-Aware Spybot Search+destroy

Thank you in advance.

When you install Office it puts a load of hidden files on
your system that are used for installing updates. if you
delete them using Disc cleaner then you need to insert
the Office CD when downloading the updates.
I use Office 2003, I presume its the same for Office XP.
Please someone put me right if Im wrong.

The first time you visit Office Update it asks to download some files that
enable you to use the update site. If you do not accept that download and
let those files install, the auto update site will not work.

If you look in Windows\Downloaded Programs (Internet Options> Temporary
Internet Files> Settings> View Objects goes to the same place), you should
see "Office Update Installation Engine." If it is present, is it listed as
installed or damaged? If damaged, delete the object. Revisit the update
site to download and install.
