Office won't hide

I can't get Office to hide in the notification area.
It is selected to "Hide Always" in the Taskbar properties. Shouldn't this
selection do it?

what version of Outlook?
The hide option I'm familiar with is for minimized windows only.

Did you right-click on its tray icon to select that Outlook hides when
minimized? What you describe is the tray customization for Windows for
what icons will appear in the system notification area (aka tray area),
not the behavior exhibited by the Outlook program regarding its icon.
