Office updates

One would think so, I get the Windows updates with no
problem, except for the green bar (progress indicater)
that goes across the top of the page, it does not show,
and I believe this is because I turn off animation, I am
not sure because I have another client and hers works fine
with animation off. I saw a post in the MS office
newsgroups with this exact problem, and they where
indicated to come here, his/hers started after a certain
KB article was installed, I tried to find the post again
to no avail.

I am virus/trojan/spyware free.

Thanks for your post

Try that link--it will get you both Office and Windows updates in the same
run, which is an advantage. Otherwise, I'm not sure what to suggest--going
back to the link you posted and re-checking the steps listed for failure of
the control are what I would suggest. I really don't think this is
Microsoft Antispyware--but if you can forward or post the message that you
felt indicated this, I'd be glad to try to see what that was about.

This is a new link I have not seen before; BUT this is the
error

Install the ActiveX control required to view the website
The website will not display correctly on your computer
without this control. To install it:
1. Right-click the Internet Explorer Information Bar. It's
located just below the address bar.
2. In the right-click menu, click Install ActiveX Control.
3. In the Security Warning dialog box, click Install.

Note: If the Information Bar doesn't appear, or if you've
installed the control but still can't use the website,
take these steps to solve the problem.

Example: Internet Explorer Information Bar with right-
click menu

When I click the info bar all I get is "information bar
help" no other option..

Thanks again

I'm inclined to think that you've turned something off in attempting to lock
down IE which is needed--I don't know enough detail about IE to suggest
what.

Here's what I'd do--go to tools, Internet options (in IE) and click on the
advanced tab.

Record what you need to if you have custom settings here that you want to be
able to return to. Then hit the "restore defaults" button down at the
bottom. You might also click on the "security" tab, and do "set default
level" for the Internet zone, and perhaps all the others too.

Then try that link (or your original one) again. I do recommend using
Microsoft Update (that link) versus Windows Update--it'll bring in your
office patches along with the Windows patches in a single operation.

Bill, once again thanks for your help,

I found a work around and have installed the activex
needed for the site you mentioned.
I had to install a 3rd party browser in this case I used
Maxthon.
I am hopping that when IE7 comes out it will fix my IE
browser.

Thanks

That's a very interesting workaround. I don't know the mechanics of how
Maxthon works--I've used it myself at times--I know it is based on IE and
uses IE code, but clearly it added something that allowed you to work around
your issue.

Great--thanks for posting that--it may come in handy when someone else has a
similar issue.
