Office OL 2007 and Vista

I received a warning (when I tried to create and save a new OL contact) that
my pst file is too large. I was prevented from saving the new contact.

I checked the pst size (in c:\users\me\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook), and
see that a hair over 1.9 GB (and FWIW, the Archive.pst is over 3.4 GB.

I thought the default max size is 20GB.

I tried finding the Registry entries for max file sizes, and thought they
were located at
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Outlook , but
navigating down there to Microsoft, there's only SystemCertificates and
Windows.

What's going on?

Thanks.

You are probably using a legacy pst file in ANSI format from a prior (2002)
version of Outlook. The ANSI format is limited in theory to 2GB but problems
tend to surface well before that limit is reached.

Create a new pst file and choose the Office Outlook Personal Folders File
option. Set that as your default mail delivery, and copy your data from the
old pst file into it.

HTH

Did you bring the PST over from a version of Outlook older than 2003 (2002
and earlier had this size limit)? The max size of the PST is larger in 2003
and newer versions of Outlook only if the PST was created in that newer
version.

I would suggest creating a new PST in Outlook 2007 and then moving the items
from your old PST into the new one.

Thanks, both Gordon and Kathleen. That's exactly what the situation is. I
think it goes back to 2002.

I'll do the fix you both suggest.
