Hi there,

I use the office links menu to export a report to excel. This stopped
working. The 'outputting...' message poops up for a second and no excel
file gets created nor does it open excel.

Has anyone seen this before?

TIA,
Josh

Yes I am seeing this too, with Office 2003. the message I get is
"..(application name) cannot retrieve the value of this property". This is
followed by a longer "explanation", which of course doesn't explain
anything! It doesn't even tell us what property it is talking about.
It doesn't even say what object it is a property OF.
I have installed Office 2003 SP2, but the problem remains. I
don't know what to do about it either - it's a facility that is built into
Access, so there is none of my code in there even to look at, let alone
debug. I hope
someone can enlighten us on this. It has always worked OK for me in the
past, mainly with Office97.

Hello Joshua,

I know the issue occurs if you click Office links->Analyze it with
Mcirosoft Excel. I'd like to confirm if the issue occurs when you right
click the report->Export, and select Microsof Excel as output format. Also,
do you have multiple versions of Office installed on this machine?

If there is only one veresion of Office installed, you may want to repair
Office via Add/Remove Programs to test the situation. Also, if you have
different versions of Office installed, you need to remove Access and try
to install it to a different folder to test.

Thanks Peter,

I have tried what you recommend. The problem still occurs if I use the
Export action as you describe (and I tried both of the available xls file
format options). I have only one version of Office (2003) installed. I
have repaired the installation, but the problem persists. Any other
suggestions will be welcome!

Hello Steve,

Based on my experience, it shall be caused by corrupted registry key.
Usually it is not easy to find the root cause of the corrupted keys. You
may want to try the following method to completely remove/reinstall Office
2003

Step1

====

Uninstall Office 2003 on your computer from Add/Remove if possible

Step2

====

Refer to the following article to remove some Windows Installer related
registry keys
Q290301 OFFXP: Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q290/3/01.asp

Step 3

=======

Delete the keys in the registry

From the Start menu, go to Run…, type REGEDIT and press Enter.

Locate the following keys and delete them. If you cannot find one key, just
skip it and try the next key.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Installer\Products\<OfficeGUID>
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\Produc
ts\<OfficeGUID>
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\Installer\Products\<Office GUID>
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Office
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\<Offi
ceGUID>

Step 4

========

Save the registry value and delete it.

Locate the following key in the registry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserD
ata\<SID>\products\<OfficeGUID>

In the Registry menu, click "Export Registry File", type a file name, and
then click Save.

On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click Yes.

Quit Registry Editor.

Step 5

=====

Delete remaining folders

In Windows Explorer, locate and delete the following folders:

<drive>:\Program Files\Microsoft Office

Step6

=====

Upgrade Office 2003 to latest Service Pack.

Peter,

We're on Office XP. I'll try uninstalling and install
Office 2003 and see if that helps.
Will let you know.

Thanks,
Josh
