Hi,

I am configuring a new W2K TS server. There are very few apps
installed but the two that are giving me a headache are Office 2000
and Lotus Notes Client.

If I log on as a user and open an explorer window I can browse a
selection of Microsoft Office files, all displayed with the correct
associated icon. Double clicking on the icon launches the required
application as you would expect. All good so far.

However if I launch Excel for example, then go to the File... Open…
menu option and browse to the same directory location for the files,
they are displayed with the default Windows icon rather than the
correct small Excel icon.

In another (and probably connected issue) when I open an email with an
Office attachment the full size Windows default icon is displayed
rather that then correct one. If I select the file it opens correctly.

I have checked the icons set in the file associations, which appear to
be correct, and that seems to be backed up by both the association and
the icon displaying correctly in Explorer.

Interestingly if I log onto the console as an administrator everything
is fine.

Has anybody seen this before, or knows of a resource that details how
icons are assigned to applications other than explorer? Am I right in
thinking that I=it could be the Icon Cache that's got out of sync? If
that's the case why is explorer ok?

Another useful pointer could be if anybody who understands the
files/process that occurs could point me in a direction?

Thanks in advance

Neil

Did you install Office 2000 while the server was in Applicatiuon Server Mode, with the transform from the resource kit, while using Add/Remove Programs or "change user /install"
